Gartmann

The Gartmann chocolate factory of Hamburg-Altona started issuing cards in 1901 and was one of the few companies to continue issuing cards throughout the first world war. The cards were in Stollwerck format and were divided into series of six. Slip-in albums were also produced which were unusual in that each album contained not only an index of the cards for which it was produced, but also an index for the cards of the previous album. Thus it could also be used for the previous cards if the correct album were no longer available. In some albums, the series numbers could be written in by hand, in others, slip-in numbers were provided.
